What are the benefits to joining my Patient Access?

my Patient Access provides you personalized, convenient and secure online access to your healthcare information, 24/7. my Patient Access is fully integrated with the software your physician uses to create your electronic personal health record.

Complimentary services include:
• Scheduling physician’s appointments online
• Receiving medical alerts and reminders from your physician’s office
• Receiving appropriate physician-approved health information
• Personal health diary.

Enhanced services, available for an annual subscription fee, allow you to:
• View and download your medical history
• Request prescription refills online
• Obtain your lab results as soon as they are available
• Communicate with your physician online.

Is there a cost to enrolling in my Patient Access?

Basic services of my Patient Access are complimentary. Enhanced services are available for an annual subscription fee. Compare levels of our services here.

How secure is my health information on my Patient Access?

Your password-protected identity with my Patient Access gives you and your physician the ability to access your medical records and communicate in an online environment that is private, protected and completely secure—at any time, day or night, weekends or holidays.

We take every precaution to protect your information. When you submit information via our website, your information is protected online and off-line. The mypatientaccess.ca portal includes tools that enable healthcare providers to safeguard your health information. my Patient Access has company-wide policies and procedures in place to prevent unauthorized access to that information; some safeguards include:
• Conducting regular threat-risk-assessments and vulnerability tests
• Enforcing strict username and password policies
• Implementing strict access controls to patient information
• Regular monitoring of potential and actual security breaches
• Strict hardware and software management and monitoring procedures
• Enforcing staff and contractor compliance with company security and privacy policies.

How do I sign up?

If your physician offers my Patient Access services, you can sign up immediately.

Complete the easy sign-up process by visiting our sign-up page. You will need your provincial health card.

If your physician doesn’t offer my Patient Access services, you will not be able to access my Patient Access. You should consult your physician’s office for further direction.

I’m trying to sign up, but my Patient Access doesn’t recognize me.

First, ensure that your physician offers my Patient Access services.

Ensure you are using your correct health card number, with no spaces or dashes, and your correct name.

I forgot my password and/or user ID.

Visit our log-in page for instructions on how to reset your password and user ID.

Can I get a copy of my medical record, immunization history or laboratory test results?

Yes. All of these services are available online as part of your Priority Patient Access subscription (compare levels of our services here).

As an added feature, your Priority subscription also offers you the option of storing your medical information on a USB key, and taking it with you anywhere.

Can I access my medication history online and request a prescription renewal?

Yes. This service is available to you as part of your Priority Patient Access subscription (compare levels of our services here).

Can I book an appointment online with other healthcare providers in my physician’s office?

If your other healthcare providers are part of the same clinic as your physician, you will also be able to book appointments with them through my Patient Access.

How do I access my family members’ health records, or book an appointment for my children or spouse?

Children under 16 years old are included in the family plan subscription to my Patient Access. When your children turn 16, they will have the option of creating their own account.

If you need access to any adult’s account—for example, if you are a caregiver for a dependent child who is over 16, or for an elderly relative—please talk with your physician about gaining access.

Can I add information to my personal health record?

To ensure accuracy at all times and to avoid errors, only your physician can add information to your personal health record. If you feel any information is incorrect or incomplete, please consult your physician.

While you cannot add information to your personal health record, my Patient Access offers you a unique feature called “My Health Diary.” This diary allows you to record and review your own health information, in as much detail as you wish.

Who delivers my Patient Access services?

my Patient Access services are provided to you through your physician by Canadian Patient Access (CPA), a Canadian-owned company that uses technology to help healthcare providers and patients communicate in a secure and efficient online environment. Our goal is to make CPA the standard for personal healthcare management for all Canadians.
